Chemical Peel Information & Instructions

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are professional skin-resurfacing treatments that use specially formulated acids to exfoliate the outer layers of the skin. This helps improve skin tone, texture, acne, pigmentation, and signs of aging.

We offer a range of chemical peels customized to your individual skin needs and goals. Two of our most popular and effective options include:

  • VI Peel – A medium-depth, medical-grade peel that targets acne, fine lines, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation. Safe for all skin types and tones, with minimal downtime and visible peeling.
  • Cosmelan Peel – An intensive depigmentation treatment designed to reduce melasma, dark spots, and stubborn pigmentation. This two-phase treatment includes an in-office peel and a strict at-home regimen for long-term pigment control.

Your provider will determine the most appropriate peel type based on your skin condition, goals, and tolerance.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

Follow these guidelines to prepare your skin and reduce the risk of irritation or complications:

  • Discontinue retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, and exfoliating products 5–7 days prior to treatment.
  • No waxing, dermaplaning, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion for 7–10 days pre-peel.
  • Stop any strong active skincare products (like Vitamin C or acids) 3–5 days before.
  • Arrive for your appointment with a clean, makeup-free face.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 1 week prior.
  • Let your provider know if you are taking Accutane, antibiotics, or have a history of cold sores (you may need antiviral medication).
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 24–48 hours before the procedure.

Post-Treatment Instructions

What to Expect:

  • Redness, dryness, tightness, and mild swelling are common immediately after the peel.
  • Peeling/flaking generally begins around Day 2–3, lasting 5–7 days.
  • Do not pick or pull at peeling skin, as this may cause irritation or scarring.
  • Skin may feel sensitive or warm—this is normal.

Avoid for 7 Days Post-Peel:

  • Direct sun exposure (apply SPF 30–50 daily)
  • Heat or sweating (e.g., exercise, saunas, steam rooms)
  • Scrubs, exfoliants, active serums, or retinoids
  • Waxing or hair removal in treated areas
  • Wearing makeup for the first 24–48 hours (as advised)

Post-Peel Do’s:

  • Use only the aftercare products provided or recommended by your provider.
  • Gently cleanse with a mild, non-exfoliating cleanser.
  • Keep skin moisturized and protected—do not allow skin to become dry or tight.
  • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 every morning, even on cloudy days or indoors.

VI Peel Specific Aftercare

  • Peeling usually begins around Day 2 and continues for 5–7 days.
  • You will receive aftercare towelettes and post-peel instructions—follow them exactly.
  • Avoid picking or touching the peeling skin.
  • Resume active skincare products only after 7–10 days, or once skin is fully healed.

Cosmelan Peel Specific Aftercare

  • You will wear the in-office peel mask for 8–12 hours before removing it at home.
  • Begin using the Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream and aftercare products as instructed.
  • Redness, burning, and intense peeling are normal for several days post-treatment.
  • Strict sun protection and compliance with the home protocol are essential for best results.
  • Avoid active products for 2–3 weeks or as advised by your provider.
  • Follow-up visits are required to monitor progress and adjust your regimen.
