Dermal Filler Information & Instructions

Dermal fillers are used to temporarily smooth out and fill in moderate to severe wrinkles and folds in the skin.  They are used to correct volume loss and improve the appearance of hollowness.

It is Not safe to receive cosmetic injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you have a history of fever blisters/cold sores, be sure to let your provider know ahead of time.

You should avoid getting filler injections if you plan to travel by plane within 24 hours of the treatment.

Pre-Treatment:

Before your appointment, we want to minimize your intake of blood-thinning medications, foods, and supplements.  Examples of this would be NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen or Aspirin), vitamins, such as fish oil, and alcohol.  Avoiding these things can help reduce and minimize your risk of bruising and swelling from treatment.  Do Not, however, discontinue prescription blood thinners without consulting with your prescribing physician.

Taking Arnica Montana starting 1 day prior to treatment, and continuing 3 days post-treatment, can also help decrease bruising and swelling.  Bromelain can also be used.  These can be found over-the-counter.

Day of Treatment:

Please arrive with a clean face.

Especially for nervous patients, please come well-hydrated and well-nourished.  Some people are more prone to feeling dizzy or faint when they receive this type of treatment, so we want to do everything we can to avoid this.

Post-Treatment:

Redness, swelling and bruising can occur, and is normal, and may last anywhere from a few hours to a few days.  Ice packs can be used post-treatment.  We recommend no more than 15 minutes per hour and discontinue icing after 6 hours.  Ice must be placed gently on the skin without pressure.

Please keep your head elevated and do not lay down for 4 hours after treatment.  You will want to avoid touching the treated area during this time as well (other than using ice).  Avoid sleeping on your face (or injection site) the night of your treatment.

Avoid any heavy exercise, lifting, or physical activity for 24 hours post injection.  Please refrain from wearing makeup for 24 hours as well.

Avoid intense heat for 1 week after treatment.  This would include prolonged sun exposure, saunas, and hot tubs.

You will start to notice results from treatment in around four days and results peak at two weeks.

A 2-week follow-up is highly recommended for evaluation and touch-ups may be required.  Please call us with any questions or concerns.
