Radiesse Information & Instructions
What is Radiesse®?
Radiesse is a dermal filler composed of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel. It provides immediate volume and stimulates collagen over time.
- Standard Radiesse® is used for contouring and volumizing.
- Hyperdilute Radiesse® is Radiesse mixed with saline/lidocaine, used to improve skin quality, texture, and elasticity in larger surface areas (e.g., neck, décolleté, etc.)
Pre-Treatment Instructions
To reduce the risk of side effects such as bruising or swelling:
- Avoid blood thinners for at least 3–5 days prior:
- Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve)
- Fish oil, vitamin E, Ginkgo biloba, garlic supplements
- Alcohol
- Always consult your physician before stopping any prescribed medication.
- Start arnica (optional): Arnica tablets or gel may help reduce bruising. Begin 2 days before treatment.
- Stay hydrated.
- Avoid smoking for 24–48 hours before and after the procedure.
- Do not schedule major social events or photos within 7 days of treatment.
- Avoid dental work, vaccinations, or major procedures for 2 weeks before and after treatment.
Day of Treatment
- Come with a clean face (no makeup, moisturizer, or sunscreen).
- Eat a light meal beforehand to avoid dizziness.
- Inform your provider of any recent illness, cold sores, or medications.
Post-Treatment Instructions
Normal Side Effects (Lasting 1–5 Days):
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Tenderness or redness
- Lumps (may be palpable but should not be visible)
Care Tips:
- Ice the area (15 mins on/off for the first 24 hours).
- Sleep with head elevated the first night if treated in the face or neck.
- Avoid touching, massaging, or applying pressure unless instructed.
- Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort. Avoid NSAIDs for 24–48 hours if possible.
- Use Arnica gel or tablets to reduce bruising.
- Avoid makeup for 24 hours.
- Do not lie flat for 4 hours post-injection if treated in the face.
Avoid for 24–48 Hours:
- Alcohol
- Vigorous exercise or heat exposure (e.g., saunas, hot yoga)
- Sun exposure or tanning
- Facials, massages, microneedling, lasers, or waxing in treated area
- Tight clothing if body areas (e.g., neck, arms) were treated
Additional Notes for Hyperdilute Radiesse®
- Results are gradual; skin tightening and textural improvements will appear over 6–12 weeks.
- Multiple sessions may be required (typically 2–3 spaced 4–6 weeks apart).
- Mild firmness or lumpiness may occur and usually resolves as product integrates.
- Do not massage the area unless specifically advised.
- Avoid direct sun exposure to the treated area for at least 7 days.
When to Call the Office
Contact your provider immediately if you experience:
- Severe pain or skin discoloration (white, gray, or dark blotches)
- Lumps that worsen or increase in size
- Fever, chills, or signs of infection
- Blurred vision or sudden headache after facial treatment
