WHAT IS CONTACT DERMATITIS?

Allergic contact dermatitis is one that is a type 4 delayed hypersensitivity reaction and occurs 48-72 hours after exposure to the Allergan. the most common forms of this type of Allergan are nickel and acrylate allergy associated with nail polish.

WHAT CAUSES CONTACT DERMATITIS?

Irritant Contact dermatitis is triggered by contact with an irritating substance that makes direct contact with the skin. Examples include soaps and detergents, acids, chlorine, dust, cosmetics and hair dye.

People who have a history of atopy, hay fever and generally have sensitive skin are more likely to have contact dermatitis. The way to find out if you are allergic to a substance is to do a PATCH test. This will show what substances you are sensitive and allergic to.
